The pupillage guide in outline

Section 1 – Introduction explains what the pupillage guide is, why we wrote it and why you should read it. It  asks the question “what does it really take?” to secure pupillage. Finally, the author of the guide has distilled their understanding of the process into four keys to securing pupillage.

Section 2 – Application Form advises how to decide which chambers to apply to, how to assess your CV, and figure out your ‘X’ factor. It also addresses core sections of the form, common questions, and how to draft your answers.

Section 3 – Interviews covers what chambers are looking for, why self-belief matters, and how to review your application form. It advises on preparing for interviews, orienting yourself pre-interview, what to do in the room, how to answer debate questions, advocacy exercises,  and the fact that every interview is different.

Section 4 – Final thoughts contains a wrap-up, including when you’ll hear back, advice for those applying for a second time, mentoring, use of social media, exercising good judgement and an FAQ page.
